Prominent Hindu Temples

India has a great and rich cultural heritage.  There are large numbers of temples in India. People of various faiths reside here and worship according to their faith. . They have got their own beliefs and tradition. People have built temples dedicating to their Gods.  Some of the prominent temples of India are as follows:

1.Badrinath Temple

It is one of the four holy shrines of Hindu religion. It is located in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand.   Apart from this, there are also  small four dhams in Badrinath, in which there are hundred and eight shrines of Lord Vishnu dedicated to Lord Vishnu.

2.Sun Temple, Konark

Konark is near the Puri  district of Odisha which is a wonderful specimen of architecture in the form of a temple. This temple is dedicated to Lord Sun. Built in the form of a chariot; this temple has twelve wheels, which are seen dragging by seven horses.

3. Bhrihdeeswara Temple

The Brihadeeswara temple was built in the eleventh century by King Chola of Chola Empire. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the largest temples in India. This temple was  made by cutting the vast rocks of granite.

4.Onkareshwar Temple

Onkareshwar Temple is a Hindu temple. It is located in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh. It is situated between the island Mandhata or Shivpuri and Narmada river. This is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva.

5. Somnath Temple

Somnath Temple is also mentioned in ancient books such as Geeta, SkandPuran and Shivpuran. Soma means the Moon and Somnath means the protector or owner of the moon.  This temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva

6. Kedarnath Temple

Kedarnath temple is one of the prominent  temples of Lord Shiva. According to one story it was constructed by the Pandavas  in the memory  of the death of the Kurus in the war. Adi Shankaracharya restored it again in the eighth century. This is one of the four small Dhams of Uttarakhand, for which the people who come here have to go through 14-kilometer hill paths.  This temple is surrounded by cold glaciers and high peaks, height of which is about 3,583 meters. During the winter this temple is closed.

6.Ramnathaswamy (Rameswaram) Temple

This temple is near a small island near Tamil Nadu, which is known as Rameswaram. It is one of the four sacred shrines according to the beliefs of the Hindu religion.
