Children Day

Children are the future of a nation that is what Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru said that the property of any nation is not in its repository but in their schools. In fact, children are the wealth of the country and we should protect them and develop their future. They are the carrier of our culture, values, and ideology. Children are the assets for a county. If they are healthy and educated they will create a healthy and educated nation. On the contrary, if they are ill-nourished and illiterate they will create the same world.
Children Day is celebrated in India on 14th November. The day marks the birth anniversary of our first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.
Jawaharlal Nehru was born on 14 November 1889 in Allahabad, in Uttar Pradesh. He is fondly remembered as Chacha Nehru (Uncle Nehru) by the nation and especially by the children. After Jawaharlal Nehru’s death, this day is celebrated as Bal Diwas in India due to his love and affection for children. Pandit Nehru also established the Children’s Film Society India in 1955 to create indigenous cinema for kids. This day is celebrated across the nation to increase awareness about children’s rights, welfare, and education.
It is noteworthy to know that the first Children Day was established in 1954 as Universal Children’s Day and is celebrated on 20 November each year.
Prior to 1964, India celebrated Children’s Day on November 20 as the United Nations observes it on this day. The primary aim of it was to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improving their welfare. On 20th November 1959, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. Likewise, on 29th November 1989, the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child. As per the Declaration on the Rights of the Child children have a right to food, health care, education, and protection from exploitation. It took the great step of asserting these rights for all children and made it the duty of the international community to put children’s rights at the forefront of planning.
